Albion fans could get their first glimpse of Facundo Buonanotte in the stripes today.

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi offered us more team news snippets than usual as he gave his customary press conference ahead of a match yesterday afternoon.

And one of them was that the Argentina under-20s international was in his squad list to face Bournemouth.

It is just two weeks since Buonanotte was stretchered off in Colombia after a heavy fall playing for his country.

After an overnight hospital stay, he left Javier Mascherano’s squad and headed back to England.

He was pictured in The Argus getting involved in training this week.

De Zerbi was initially asked a question about pre-deadline signing Yasin Ayari, the young Swedish midfielder who has signed from AIK Solna.

But the answer ended up giving some info away on Buonanotte.

Asked what he made so far of Ayari, De Zerbi said: “I don’t know. I want to see him on the pitch and I will answer you in the future but I think he’s a good, young player.

“I am happy for Buonanotte because tomorrow he is on the bench.

“We will see if he can play 20-25 minutes or in the next game.

“I like him as a player because he can play inside the pitch or in March’s position.

“There aren’t players who play in March’s position.

“For us he is a very important new player.”

De Zerbi had already told us Moises Caicedo would play.

Levi Colwill and Adam Lallana remain out although it seems neither absence will go on for much longer.

The talk was of one or two more weeks out for Colwill and Lallana could be similar.

But De Zerbi confirmed Tariq Lamptey will play, which in turn puts Pascal Gross into midfield.

The strength of the squad is being tested to a degree, as is happening with clubs across the country.

But De Zerbi seemed happy enough with his choices as he prepared to face the Cherries.

He said: “I hope to not make mistakes.

“When you can choose from three players for one position, you can make a mistake.”

Albion did not take as many signings as many clubs in January.

Not as many as Bournemouth, for example.

Adapting the squad to better suit what De Zerbi wants remains a work in progress.

But the head coach is happy with what he has at the moment, not least with Moises Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister and Mitoma all still on board.

He said: “It can be a good thing and sometimes not, it depends on the squad you have.

“I think we have a good team. For sure we could improve the squad but for Caicedo, for example, he is still with us.

“That is fantastic for us, and Mac Allister and Mitoma are the same

“I am very lucky to be a coach of this team.”
