John Brooks has been removed from VAR duty for two big Premier League games after his error denied Albion a goal.

Brooks was the video assistant who advised Michael Oliver to rule out Pervis Estupinan’s strike at Crystal Palace.

He was due to take the video assistant role for tonight’s Merseyide derby and Wednesday’s top-of-the-table Arsenal v Manchester City fixture.

However, he has now been replaced by Andre Marriner and David Coote respectively for those matches.

Former referee Dermot Gallagher told Sky Sports viewers the move might not necessarily be a punishment.

He said: “It might just be they have spoken to john and he feels upset that this has happened and he doesn’t feel in the right frame of mind.

“It could be they want to give him time just to get it out of his system.

“It could be for a number of reasons.”
