Danny Bloor will be glad to get his Eastbourne Borough side back on home ground after a huge effort on the road.

Borough came from a goal down to win 2-1 at Taunton after they were handed a 450-mile return trip on Tuesday.

Luke Pearce, the young striker on loan from Southampton, scored both goals.

The match was initially postponed due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Bloor was understanding of that decision but felt it was a tall order to send his side to Somerset in midweek.

They eventually got home at around 4am at the end of their third away trip in eight days.

The Borough boss said: “I am really pleased how our young players have responded.

“We went a goal down and then we lost Mitch Dickenson but credit where credit is due.

“The boys were excellent.

“They had to be in work the next morning.

“We have got teachers in the group. They had to be in the classroom in the morning.

“They had to call in favours to get the time off initially.

“It’s such a great effort.

“I think the league might need to look at this.

“We can’t be going to Taunton for a midweek game.

“It was five hours to get there and longer to get back because of motorway closures.”

Borough host play-off contenders Chelsmford tomorrow and Tonbridge Angels on Tuesday.

Bloor added: “Ironically, after the Tuesday game we don’t have any more midweek games this season.”

Jayden Perez could return tomorrow but Dickenson’s rib injury rules him out and there is also a doubt over Kai Innocent.
