Jens Scheuer has parted company with Albion by mutual consent.

The former Bayern Munich coach took charge of the women’s team at the turn of the year.

But the high-profile appointment has not kick-started Albion’s season and they are second from bottom of the table.

Amy Merricks, supported by Perry Northeast, will take interim charge as the Seagulls play Chelsea in the WSL on Wednesday.

Technical director David Weir said: “Together with Jens, we’ve not reached this decision lightly, and while we appreciate he has given his all in the role, this feels like the right step forward for all parties involved.

“We would like to thank Jens for his efforts and on behalf of everyone at the club, we wish him well for the future.”

Scheuer took charge of just six games, of which three were in the league, and recently said Albion could not play the type of high pressing game he preferred.

Clearly frustrated, he told the club's website soon after a 6-2 defeat by Aston Villa: "What I have learnt from this game is we can’t go in a high press.

“It’s not possible with this team."

He also said Albion could not beat the leading teams in the WSL although, in a later interview with The Argus, he modified this to say they could win one in ten against the top sides.

His tenure got off to a bad start wit a 3-0 defeat at bottom team Leicester.

Albion also drew at Villa, which was a good result, and made emphatic FA Cup progress against lower-division opponents in West Brom and Coventry United.

His final game in charge was the 5-0 win over Coventry, when four late goals put a gloss on what had been a nervy performance, certainly in the final third.
