Officials who left Albion seething have been slammed for “complete incompetence”.

The accusation came from former Tottenham midfielder Danny Murphy after his old club beat the Seagulls 2-1.

Stuart Attwell and his video assistant Michael Salisbury were at the centre of several talking points.

Murphy and Alan Shearer looked at two disallowed goals and two penalty appeals on BBC’s Match Of The Day.

They felt there was room for doubt on decisions to rule out goals for Koaru Mitoma and Alexis Mac Allister.

But they had no doubts when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg fouled Mitoma in the Spurs box.

They also felt Clement Lenglet should have been penalised for pulling Lewis Dunk’s shirt at a set-piece.

Murphy told viewers. “There is no apology, statement or explanation that is going to make those Brighton players…."

Having been interrupted, he came back to say: "It is beyond belief that those two decisions weren’t given.

“It is hard to find any logical reason why.

“As far as I’m concerned it’s just complete incompetence.

"I feel for (referees chief) Howard Webb to a degree.”

Shearer said the decision to rule out the Mac Allister goal was “very harsh” but offered some benefit of doubt.

But he slammed the call on the Hojbjerg foul as “an awful decision” and “a howler”.

Shearer added: “It should be a clear penalty. De Zerbi I’m sure will be getting an apology at some time in the next 48 hours to say, ‘Sorry, we got that one wrong’.

“It’s not good enough, it’s not acceptable.”
