Albion and Tottenham have been charged by the Football Association for the incident which saw Roberto De Zerbi and Cristian Stellini sent to the stands.

The announcement appears to take the onus of blame off the two head coaches.

Albion felt De Zerbi was acting as peacemaker in the incident.

An FA spokesperson said: “Tottenham and Brighton have been charged for a mass confrontation that took place during the 58th minute of their Premier League game on Saturday 8 April.

“It’s alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their technical area occupants conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or do not behave in a way which is improper.

“Tottenham and Brighton have until Monday 17 April to respond.”

The more collective nature of the charges appears to end any concerns over De Zerbi being banned from the technical area when Albion face Manchester United at Wembley - assuming he keeps out of trouble at Chelsea this weekend.

Albion were convinced he had been more of a peacemaker during the incident which led to his dismissal.

Chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber told The Argus: “We feel, of the footage we’ve seen and that we’ve studied very closely, Roberto actually acted throughout as a peacemaker.”
