Steve Smith has revealed his ‘welcome to Hove’ moment as he prepares to play for Sussex.

The Australia batsman and England bowler Ollie Robinson are both set to feature away to Worcestershire tomorrow.

Smith has signed a short-term deal in the run up to the Ashes.

He faced England pace ace Robinson in the Hove nets – and was bowled.

Smith said: “I left the third ball and he knocked me over so it wasn’t ideal!

“But I was impressed with him, actually, last when he was in Australia, I thought he had some really good skills.

“He's quite tall, hits some good areas and looks like he's got better.

“I'm looking forward to playing with him this week.”

Smith, whose stint will include the home game with Glamorgan, is relishing a chance to play Championship cricket.

He said: “I'm excited by everything that's coming up.

“I'm looking forward to getting a few games in here in Sussex, where hopefully I can have an impact on some of the younger players.

“The team have started well this year so hopefully we can help Sussex win a few games of.

cricket.”
