Albion are on the brink of securing WSL safety.

Kayleigh Green’s header secured a 1-0 win over West Ham.

It was their second successive home victory and a first cleansheet of the league season.

They move up to ninth and are now five points clear of bottom side Reading, whose two remaining games are against Tottenham and Chelsea.

Green struck on 57 minutes with an emphatic finish after Katie Robinson picked her out at the far post following good work by Julia Zigiotti.

Albion went on to complete the job with no major alarms.

Their one real scare throughout the game came late in the first half, when Zoe Morse cleared off the line from Dagny Brynjarsdottir.

They can officially make sure of safety on Wednesday when they face Arsenal at the Broadfield Stadium.

Albion might have forced an opener when Guro Bergsvand got her head to a Megan Connolly free-kick which had been flicked on.

But no one could get a vital final touch.

Emma Kullberg headed off target when Connolly’s corner found her at the far post.

Lisa Evans then looped a volley over at the other end after a corner was never really cleared.

It took clever footwork by both Robinson and Elisabeth Terland to create a chance in open play.

But Terland’s angled shot was swatted away by Mackenzie Arnold.

West Ham, though were inches from an opener late in the half.

Megan Walsh did not deal with an Evans cross, Brynjarsdottir hooked the ball goalwards and Morse was on the line to block.

Albion got the breakthrough just before the hour as Julia Zigiotti interrupted West Ham’s attempt to play out.

Robinson wasted no time delivering a pinpoint cross and Green thumped home a header at the far post.

Another Robinson cross, this time along the deck, would have led to a quick second had Lucy Parker not got in a great block on Terland in front of goal.

Terland thought she had been fouled in front of goal by Kate Longhurst but was instead booked for her reaction as what looked a decent appeal was waved away.

A second goal would have averted some of the slightly nervous moments Albion had to ensure as balls went into their box.

But a rock solid defensive performance built around Bergsvand and Morse ensured the hosts never really had any scares.
