Roberto De Zerbi has revealed what made him “sad” about Albion’s memorable draw with Manchester City.
The head coach celebrated in style in the changing room as his team confirmed their Europa League spot.
Albion had 20 shots against Pep Guardiola’s side with seven on target and a Danny Welbeck effort which hit the bar.
But the champions had 60% of possession and piled up 540 passes to Albion’s 325.
De Zerbi said, possibly tongue-in-cheek: “I’m sad because we lost the ball possession.
“But we will work to win the ball possession back.
“We shot more times but I told Pep I am sad today, because, ‘Okay, Europa League, but I lost ball possession with you’.
“But you know Pep is the best coach in the world and we can lose the ball possession.”
Albion have had time to rest and will prepare tomorrow for their Sunday afternoon season-closer at Aston Villa.
