Bart Verbruggen said he wants to join a club with the right people and style of play – amid expectation he is heading to Albion.

The Netherlands under-21 goalkeeper confirmed he has spoken to Roberto De Zerbi about a potential move from Anderlecht to the Amex.

But he is keeping his focus firmly on international duty all the time he remains involved in the Under-21 Euros.

Verbruggen is thought to be close to a move to the Seagulls for about £17 million.

Albion’s goalkeeping set-up for the coming season started to take shape yesterday when highly-rated James Beadle agreed a season-long loan at Oxford United.

Verbruggen, who is good with both hands and feet, is considered by some to be the future senior No.1 for Holland and is keen to pick the right club for his development.

He told Algemeen Dagbald in Holland: “I think the best path is different for each player and I don’t think it’s right for me to focus on the name of the club.

“Do the competition, style of play and the people there suit the person I am?”

Verbruggen said he had a “great” conversation with De Zerbi and added: “That is also the reason why I take this option very seriously.

“I’m just not busy with it now, because I’m fully focused on this European Championship.

“My agents are busy behind the scenes.

“I really don’t know the status either.

“Until I have signed, I will not celebrate anything.”

Verbruggen and Albion defender Jan Paul van Hecke are preparing to face Portugal in Tbilisi after opening their group fixture with a 0-0 draw against Belgium.

England play Israel tomorrow. Albion goalkeeper Carl Rushworth is likely to be on the bench with Levi Colwill starting in defence.
