Facundo Buonanotte has already reaped rewards of his move to the Premier League.

The Albion midfielder has bought a new house in Argentina for his parents at the age of just 18.

The family shed tears of joy as Buonanotte invited mum and dad to a party at a nice property in their home city, then gave them the keys and told them: “Actually, it’s yours!”

He will be hoping the investment of time and effort put in with Albion during the second half of last season pays off on the field.

To a degree it already has in terms of international recognition.

He made no secret of his disappointment at missing the Under-20 World Cup being staged in his home country.

But the pay-off for that was a pair of senior squad call-ups and a debut in the friendly against Indonesia.

Have we seen the best of him in an Albion shirt?

Probably not - certainly on a sustained basis.

But it has been very early days and every one of those days spent around the squad and under the guidance of Roberto De Zerbi will have been time wisely invested.

Buonanotte probably should have scored in his first game for Argentina.

But he looked bright in a much-changed side and, it appears, also did his bit on a daily basis in training, Lionel Scaloni has been keeping a close eye on the Albion man.

Buonanotte said: “The coach told me to enjoy it, to do what I have been doing for my club and it worked perfectly.

“He told it wasn’t so much a match for me to prove anything as for me to get to know my team-mates.

“It was a real shame about the under-20s.

“I shared a room with Alejandro Garnacho. We spoke about it and it was a shame.

“But we said we we had our payback and we thanked the coach that we were there.”

Buonanotte finished the season with seven starts (including one in the FA Cup) and seven games off the bench for the Seagulls.

He joined them having played the 2022 calendar year with Rosario Central.

This time last year he was in the thick of a domestic season in Argentina.

That means his last proper close-season came between December 2021 and February 2022 although, like many, he also had a break during the World Cup late last year.

Buonanotte probably looks a bit older than his age.

He certainly comes across as very mature in one-to-one interviews.

And, of course, he hasn’t come from nowhere.

He was in the public eye as a prominent player in Argentina’s top division and received high praise from Carlos Tevez.

He wore No.10 for the under-20 national team.

At the same time, he had not gained the sort of life experience which, for example, Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo had by the time he made his Prem debut.

Speaking late last season, De Zerbi said: “Buonanotte started with a lot of difficulty because he changed country, he changed football, dressing room.

“He is from Rosario and he played in his own city with his family, with his friends.

“To change is not easy for someone who is 18.”

As for the maturity, that was surely shown with his venture into the property market.

His mum Pamela said: “When we entered the house, with food, gifts and thinking that the house was beautiful with a park to drink tea and spend a beautiful weekend, Facu gave us a key, the one for that house, and told us that it was ours. That it was our house.”

His dad Mauricio added: “We always used to tell him that he had to study but neither of us finished school.

“I always told him not to smoke, but I smoked “ That’s why I gave up smoking and went to night classes to finish high school and then my wife did the same.”
