Albion prospect Carl Rushworth is celebrating Euros success with England under-21s.

The highly-regarded goalkeeper was on the bench as the Young Lions beat Spain 1-0 in a thrilling finale to win the European Championships.

James Trafford was the last-gasp hero when he saved a penalty and the follow-up deep into added time.

The spot kick, awarded after a VAR check, looked arguably a harsh decision against Levi Colwill, who had again been superb in the centre of defence.

But Trafford revealed he knew he was going to save Abel Ruiz’s penalty as soon as it was awarded.

He said on Channel 4: “I told everyone this morning I was going to save a pen and when it was a penalty, I knew I was going to save it, so it was pretty easy, to be honest.

“I told all my mates back home I was going to save one.”

England did not concede a goal in any of their six games during the tournament.

Colwill’s performances throughout the competition have further enhanced a reputation which was boosted by his performances on loan to Albion last season.
