Albion prospect Maisie Symonds has signed a new deal.

The midfielder has been backed to progress in the revamped squad being put together by head coach Melissa Phillips for the WSL season.

Symonds enjoyed a flying start to life in the senior side and secured goal of the season honours with a free-kick against Leicester at the Amex.

But she has since had to battle back from glandular fever as well as injury.

The former England youth international is still only 20.

Phillips said: “We’re happy that Maisie has extended her stay with us at Brighton.

“She was unfortunate last season to be out with illness and injury but she’s an ambitious young player with a lot of potential.

“We fully believe she will thrive in the squad in the season ahead as we strive to be more competitive in the WSL table.”

Meanwhile Jeremy Sauer has been appointed as Albion girls’ academy manager.

He previously held a similar role at AFC Wimbledon before spending three years as assistant academy manager at West Ham.

Managing director Zoe Johnson said: “His appointment is another clear message of our long-term aspirations – he is a fantastic addition to our team.”
