Wolves and Albion have gone from one extreme to another in their meetings at Molineux.

They once served up one of the dullest games most of us have ever seen as the visitors picked up a precious point to stave off relegation.

The Black Country track record also includes a roller coaster of a contest last season, when the Seagulls won 3-2.

And, going back a few years, there was a thrilling, albeit wasteful, 3-3 draw.

Their fixture this Saturday throws together two of the three most shot-happy sides on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

Albion led the way with 27 attempts on goal at home to Luton.

Perhaps even more impressive was Wolves’ 23 against Manchester United at Old Trafford - and there should have been a 24th from the penalty spot late on.

The only side up there with those two were Crystal Palace, who went for goal 24 times at Sheffield United.

Albion fans can look forward to plenty of entertainment this season.

Can they reach 100 goals across all competitions?

While there are question marks over their need for a deep-lying midfielder and suggestions they are a defender or two light, there is no doubting their attacking options.

Now Solly March has revealed one of those Roberto De Zerbi targets which keeps firing them forward. Speaking to BBC Sussex’s Albion Unlimited podcast, in an interview recorded soon after the 4-1 success over Luton, the scorer of the Seagulls’ first goal this season gave a little insight.

March said: “The gaffer was saying in the week we want to be having 20, 30 shots. We can’t be settling for less than that.

“And we want to score four or five goals.

“We did that and it could have been a lot more.

“Hopefully we can take that going forward and it can be another great start to the season.”

Albion put 12 of their 27 efforts on target – plus three against the woodwork.

Wolves only managed to get six of their 23 between the posts and bar.

In terms of accuracy, Newcastle led the way with 13 on-target attempts, out of 17 in total, in the 5-1 thrashing of Aston Villa.

Everton had 19 attempts in their defeat by Fulham, of which nine were on target.

Burnley (six attempts in total), Sheffield United (eight in total) and Liverpool (13 in total) each had just the one effort on target in their games.

Albion allowed Luton nine efforts at their goal, of which the successful penalty was one of three which were well-directed.

Wolves kept an impressive ten home clean sheets last term.

But Albion had 41 efforts at goal against them across the two games, 22 in the 6-0 home win and 19 at Molineux.

March’s insight suggests that sort of ratio is the minimum requirement on Saturday.

Then it is about turning them into a win.
