David Livermore is targeting a return to the Championship after joining Micky Adams' Albion evolution.

Utility player Livermore has signed for the Seagulls on a free transfer following two seasons with Premier League new boys Hull City.

The capture of the 28-year-old former Millwall captain, revealed on www.theargus.co.uk yesterday afternoon, brings the number of signings made by Adams to four since his reappointment as manager in May.

Livermore, who has agreed a two-year contract, joins Adam Virgo, Kevin McLeod and Colin Hawkins as players with experience at Championship clubs.

Livermore said: "I met Micky Adams a few weeks back and liked what he had to say.

"I played against Brighton last season for Oldham on loan and I was impressed. They finished seventh and I think we can build on that.

"I think it is a club that is moving in the right direction and can get back into the Championship."

Livermore has tasted success in League One before with Millwall and the Londoner is looking for a repeat.

"I had two seasons in League One with Millwall," he said. "In the first we made the play-offs and then we won the title under Mark McGhee.

It would be fantastic to do that again. I know the division, even though I haven't played in it much for for a few seasons.

"I had a bit of a taste of it again last season with Oldham for two months and I know it's tough. You only have to look at Leicester, who have come down."

Livermore fits in with Adams' policy of adding versatility and experience to the squad as Albion prepare to tackle potential promotion rivals like his old club Leicester.

Adams said: "I see him as a midfield player really, but he can play leftback and left-sided centre back if we need him to.

"He's got Championship experience and played for Hull last year in a team that got promoted.

"He's 28 and I felt we had a gap in that age group between more experience and youngsters. We have tried to fill it with the likes of Livermore, McLeod and Virgo."

Further additions are expected to both Albion's playing and backroom staff, with former midfielder Darren Currie still high on their list of targets.

Gary Hart, Kerry Mayo and Paul Reid, all released by Albion at the end of last season, continue to take part in pre-season training with the Seagulls.

They could figure in next week's mini-tour of the Republic of Ireland, although Adams said: "All three of them are talking to other clubs."
