Two former Albion managers have given David Livermore a thumbs-up.

Brian Horton and Mark McGhee know Livermore well and both believe he is a good signing for the Seagulls.

The versatile 28-year-old has been snapped up by Micky Adams on a free transfer from Premier League newcomers Hull, where Horton is assistant manager.

Earlier in his career he featured regularly for McGhee's Millwall, helping them to the League One title in 2000-01.

Livermore, primarily a midfielder, made 24 appearances for Hull last season as the Tigers won promotion from the Championship via the play-offs.

Horton said: "He is a good pro. He was unfortunate at our place last year, because Dean Marney and Ian Ashbee are a very good pair.

"He popped up with a couple of goals, including a header against Stoke. He can play as a left-sided centre back as well. In fact, I saw him score from that position when he went on loan to Oldham.

"He is just a very steady player who will do a good job for them. He is a left-footer, so that gives you balance, and every week you know what you are going to get from Dave. He is a very reliable player and very honest. He'll tackle and compete, he's a very sound lad."

McGhee, now manager of Motherwell, is also glowing in his praise of former Arsenal trainee Livermore.

He said: "He is a great player to have, a terrific lad. He is as honest as the day is long and by that I mean he will give you 100 per cent.

"He'll play with injuries, he'll put himself about and he is a decent footballer. He is one of those players that you don't notice much in games but you notice him when he is missing, because he breaks things down.

"He puts his foot in and if there is someone for the opposition doing the same he will be the one who stands up to them. He is definitely a good acquisition."

Livermore flies out with the rest of the squad to the Republic of Ireland on Monday night for a mini-trip which includes a match against Athlone Town on Wednesday.
