Sky blue will be the colour for Albion fans looking for assistance in Marseille.

And it appears Place de la Joliette will become a small corner of Sussex as the Seagulls venture abroad in the Europa League for the first time.

Sussex Police football liaison officer PC Darren Balkham has revealed the sky blue top he will be wearing as he patrols in Marseille.

As a staunch Manchester United fan, he joked he is not keen on the colour.

But Darren, a hugely experienced and approachable operator who has worked an array of Albion and international fixtures, will be a key figure in this European operation as he gets out and about helping fans, the club and French police.

The hope is for a vibrant but trouble-free couple of days although Albion have stressed various rules and guidelines are in force for the game.

Fans have been told to expect “a hostile environment” and to be careful when moving around the city.

Key points include not to wear Albion colours around Marseille and not to head for the Old Port (Vieux Port) unless to get to accommodation, which will not be a problem.

Supporters are asked and advised to gather in Place de la Joliette, which is near the city centre and main railway station, especially on the day of the game, when there will be extra food and drink options and a DJ to provide entertainment.

Fans with tickets will be aware of arrangements for collecting them in the city and for travel to and from the stadium.

Albion supporters will watch the game through netting and have been told to expect a wait of about 45 minutes before leaving at full-time.

Food and drink will be available at Stade Velodrome with payments made by card or cash.

The weather is forecast to be sunny with daytime temperatures of about 26degC – and still in the low 20s at game time.

Albion are very keen for the first away trip in Europe to pass smoothly and have met with French police, UEFA and Olympique Marseille to put the guidelines in place.
