Albion trialist Michael Haswell launches his bid tomorrow night to swap a job in women's fashion for a career in professional football.

The left-back lines up for the Seagulls against Athlone Town, the Republic of Ireland's oldest club, for the first of two matches which will shape his future.

Haswell will also play at Worthing on Saturday before boss Micky Adams decides whether to award the 24-year-old from AFC Wimbledon a route back into the full-time game.

Haswell, a former Southend apprentice, is part-time with the Blue Square south club.

He revealed: "I work in women's fashion. A family friend has got his own manufacturing business. He basically designs for high street shops and we try to persuade them to buy from us.

"We do anything from tailored trousers to dresses and summer tops but only outer wear, not lingerie!

"Of course I would give that up to play for Brighton. I am absolutely relishing the opportunity Micky has given to me. Obviously it's a step up but a step in the right direction for my career and I would love it to be with Brighton.

"It's a well-run club in a lovely part of the country so fingers crossed."

Haswell started at Southend before following his youth team manager at Roots Hall into non-league with Grays and joining Wimbledon from Chelmsford City.

He was watched last season by Albion's chief scout, Barry Lloyd, and linked up with the squad last week for pre-season training.

Haswell said: "I am enjoying training every day and I have noticed a dramatic increase in my fitness.

"I feel as though I have gained a bit of confidence as well so, although there is pressure on me, I am enjoying being in this environment.

"Hopefully that will show in my performances on Wednesday and on Saturday. It is a dream I have to be a professional footballer. I believe in myself and I am ready to take the opportunity."
