Roberto De Zerbi wants Albion to channel the spirit of the City Ground – and celebrate another away win.

The Seagulls can secure progress in the Europa League by beating AEK in Athens.

On arrival in Greece, De Zerbi confirmed a potentially long lay-off for Ansu Fati, the star loan signing in whom the club invested heavily when they brought him from Barcelona.

It is understood Ansu has a muscular issue and could miss up to three months.

Tariq Lamptey also misses out and Jan Paul van Hecke is suspended but Kaoru Mitoma, James Milner and Igor were among the group who trained at the OPAP Stadium.

Albion travelled today buoyed by their 3-2 win at Nottingham Forest and keen to repeat their wins there and at Ajax recently.

De Zerbi is happy to fight through the injuries on two fronts and said: “I don’t like excuses.

“I am focused only on the Europa League but the target is the same in the Premier League, Europa League.

“We have to play our best, we have to be our best. It is a challenge for us, not an excuse.

“We are good enough to compete in the Europa League.

“We showed a great mentality against Nottingham Forest.

“We spent 90 minutes with a lot of difficulty but it was nice, the win. Our fans were very happy, our club the same.

“We have to love the challenge.

“The most difficult challenge is for the very good players and very good coaches.”

Ansu, who appeared to have a hamstring problem as he pulled up on Saturday, and Lamptey both went off injured at the City Ground.

De Zerbi said: “We lost them for, I think, a long time.

“But the focus is on the players who can play. We will be enough to compete.

“I don’t know if we win but for sure we will fight to win the game.”
