Thomas Frank revealed he changed formation at the Amex in a bid to press Albion.
The Brentford boss saw his side go down 2-1 after taking the lead.
He said: “I tried something different in terms of shape with a 4-4-2.
“I need to look back on that to give a conclusion on it.
“My instinct is it was not perfect but it was not a disaster either.
“Sometimes when we face a good team, I think no matter what shape you play, if you are not good on the ball and if you are not winning your 50-50s and if you are not getting past people, then you can get a little bit in trouble.
“That said, I think it was a fairly even game in terms of chances.”
Asked why he made the change, Frank said: “It was a little bit related to what Brighton do.
“We tried to be little bit different in the pressure.
“It could be we tried to find a way we could press in the best way possible in man-to-man.”
Brentford let the lead slip at a ground there they went ahead three times last season and ended up drawing 3-3.
