Bognor 2 Albion 4.

Micky Adams has told Albion fans there is more to come from his side's new shooting star out wide.

Kevin McLeod scored two goals and was involved in another as the Seagulls won this entertaining pre-season outing on a superb playing surface at Nyewood Lane.

True, his second goal to put his side 3-1 up was a fluke as his free-kick missed everyone and bounced inside the far post.

But there was lots to admire from the enterprising Scouser, be it on the left or on his forays to the other flank.

After missing the first friendly at Athlone, McLeod now has three goals in 135 minutes of action.

And that will suit Adams just fine for now.

The Albion boss said: "I still maintain there is a lot more to come from Kevin.

"I've worked with him for six months at Colchester. I knew what he was capable of achieving.

"What I want to do is give him a bit of confidence.

"I think if we do that, we will see the benefits for the team."

Back-up keeper John Sullivan will certainly have left the West Sussex ground with confidence high after his penalty save from Dan Beck helped the Seagulls survive a rocky first-spell against a very lively Bognor outfit.

Adams, though, was happy with the evening's work from his side.

He said: "I thought we started very bright. We got a bit sloppy as we got more tired but that's understandable.

"The pleasing aspect was scoring four goals. Some of the things we have tried to work on at the training ground, I could see the players were trying to implement.

"There are things to work on but it was a useful exercise."

McLeod needed just 75 seconds to score on his opening run out at Worthing on Saturday.

This time it took him 12 minutes. But the goal which flew past Rocks' keeper Aaron Howe was arguably even better than that which set the ball rolling at the A2B Stadium.

Albion switched the ball slickly from right to left as Andrew Whing picked out Nicky Forster, whose pass found McLeod in space.

The immediate reaction for spectators and players alike was to see what sort of targets McLeod had in the box as he advanced down the inside left channel.

Instead, the new signing let fly a left-foot rocket from the edge of the area which swerved past a startled Howe's flailing right hand and high into the net.

Scott Harris almost supplied a quick equaliser with an equally spectacular effort, his right-foot 25 yarder flying inches too high.

The led to a bright spell for Rocks and Josh Dutton-Black showed neat skills to check inside Dean Cox and get in a drive which deflected just wide off Tommy Elphick.

The resulting corner, though, saw the hosts draw level, Duncan Jupp connecting with a right foot shot from about ten yards on 21 minutes.

It should have got even better for the Rocks but first Sullivan pushed away Alex Fisher's volley, then got down sharply to his left to parry Beck's penalty after referee Danny Austin spotted pushing in the box by Whing.

Albion got back on top after that. Jonny Dixon had already headed against the bar, with Howe possibly helping the ball on to the woodwork with a fingertip touch, when he played a part in the Seagulls' second on 37 minutes.

McLeod was involved too, crossing from the right, and Dixon headed the ball back for Elphick to nod home.

Trialists Ash Johnson and Nicky Nicolau were both removed at the break and the latter's replacement, Andy Pearson, won the free-kick from which McLeod saw his intended cross, curled in left-footed from the right touchline, elude everyone and bounce inside the far post on 50 minutes.

That was a bit of a freak but the Scouser was clearly full of confidence.

He knew exactly what he was doing soon after that when he shot first time from just inside his own half - over the frantically back-tracking keeper but also inches over the crossbar.

That would have been some goal. But the fourth, added by Cox on 68 minutes after a lovely run down the left and one-two with substutute Sam Gargan, was pretty decent.

Alex Fisher replied from outside the box on 88 minutes. Bright Bognor deseved that but Albion can be happy with the workout.
