To Sheffield United and Fulham add this to the “two home points dropped” file. Maybe because it is so fresh in the mind, this felt even more wasteful than those previous 1-1s. Albion took a while to get going but had more than enough chances to turn 29 shots and an array of tempting balls in by Pascal Gross into three points. Adam Lallana, who has done some coaching with England under-21s, was deep in conversation with James Trafford at the end. The young England keeper earned his side a point with at least three super saves.

Jack Hinshelwood could easily – maybe should have – added to his goal against Brentford with another winner here. He has the knack to get into some great positions and Albion are more than willing for him to charge well forward.

Joao Pedro has drifted out to the left at times during previous matches, especially when he and Evan Ferguson have been on the pitch at the same time. This time he started there and it felt like it took something away from the Brazilian’s game, especially with the demands to drop deep at times out of possession. Attacks lost momentum when the ball went out to Joao Pedro on the left, who is just not comfortable out there.

Burnley brought what will probably be the smallest away support in the Premier League this season, taking a corner section in the south-east of the stadium. But they could be heard closing in on half-time after Wilson Odobert’s bolt from the blue – and were celebrating at the end.

------------

Albion will hope Odobert’s goal does not start a good week for the French at the Amex. The 19-year-old Burnley goalscorer looked a tricky customer right from the first few moments. He came through the PSG youth set-up and played for Troyes last season. Albion host Marseille in the Europa League on Thursday and will hope for a happier ending.
