Odel Offiah has attracted loan interest.
The 21-year-old remains among Albion’s full-back ranks, at least for the time being, in what has so far been a very quiet transfer window.
He has been playing for the under-21s since his recent return from a loan spell at Hearts.
Wigan boss Shaun Maloney had shown an interest in taking Offiah into League One.
However, he turned out for the 21s against Liverpool in the league and Dinamo Zagreb in the International Cup.
He was not involved in the Bristol Street Motors EFL Trophy, which is also a first-team competition, and that might have been to keep his loan options open.
Maloney appeared to keep the door ajar to a move at a later date.
He said: “Unfortunately that’s not going to happen.
“I really liked him, he’s a really good player, a really good guy.
“Brighton were really good to deal with.
“Whatever happens in the next few months, it just wasn’t going to work in this window.”
