Simon Adingra is staying at AFCON for a bit longer – but with a new boss.

The Albion winger and his Ivory Coast colleagues have scraped through to the last 16 as the fourth-best of the six third-placed teams.

But head coach Jean-Louis Gasset has been sacked after the host nation were humiliated 4-0 by Equatorial Guinea.

That left them with three points but Morocco’s 1-0 win over Zambia was enough to see them through.

The two third-placed teams to miss out were Zambia and Ghana, who sacked boss Chris Hughton.

Adingra, recovering from injury, went on for the closing stages as Ivory Coast suffered the heaviest defeat ever inflicted on an AFCON host.

Gasset has been replaced by Emerse Fae in interim control.

Ivory Coast will face Senegal, who won their group with maximum points but without injured Abdallah Sima, in the last 16 on Monday.
