Valentin Barco’s Olympic qualifying tournament might not over after all, despite a red card.

The Albion signing was provisionally banned for Argentina’s two remaining matches of the CONMEBOL under-23s tournament in Venezuela.

However reports emerged today that his punishment could be reduced to one match.

Barco was involved in tetchy scenes just before half-time in a 2-2 draw with the host nation.

He committed a foul in midfield and then threw the ball towards an opponent, with it striking him gently on the side of the head.

An opponent responded in kind and both players were dismissed.

Venezuela went on to secure a point with a hugely controversial, VAR-influenced penalty near the end.

Brazil and Paraguay are also involved in the final four-team group, from which two nations will go to Paris.

Barco now has hope of facing Brazil in the final match.
