Mikey Harris says he is loving his experience as head coach of Albion’s women.

It will be even more special if they pick up a precious WSL win on Sunday.

The Seagulls host Liverpool at the Broadfield Stadum (midday) looking to build on the FA Cup win at Wolves, secured by a late Emma Kullberg hat-trick.

This is only the second league game since Melissa Phillips was sacked.

Harris was brought across from the men’s academy at short notice and that recent background is reflected in the type of football he has the side looking to play.

He has been delighted with how they have worked to new methods and with the type of chances they were creating late in the Wolves game.

While non-committal when asked about what the near future holds, Harris makes no secret of the fact he is relishing his current task.

He said: “I am just here to support the club, to support the staff, to support the players.

“I am absolutely loving this experience. It’ a new experience.

“We have spoken about this as a club and this is an interim position.

“I am here to do it as long as I am needed to do it and, while I am here, I will give it absolutely everything.

“I think everyone can see that by the way we have approached it so far.”

Albion matched Aston Villa over 120 minutes of their previous home game with Harris, in the Conti Cup, before losing in a shoot-out.

Liverpool are handily-placed in fifth under the guidance of Matt Beard, whose brother Mark used to work with Harris at Albion.

The Seagulls boss said: “As a head coach you know you are working at senior level and it is a results business.

“At the same time, we are going to focus on the process and it always works like that.

“It is important we don’t deviate away from the philosophy and identity of how we want to play.

“If you focus on that constant improvement and looking to get better every training session, every day, every game. I think the results will come.

“Certainly on a personal level it felt brilliant to win against Wolves in the FA Cup on Sunday.

“A win against Liverpool would be another amazing feeling.”

Harris has been keen to put new ideas in action as he freshens up what has been a trying season.

He has had some of the club’s youngsters on board during half-term week and was impressed by what he saw.

He said: “We have had an opportunity to get some of the under-19s from the club joining in training which has been fantastic to see, to get them involved.

“A big part of the philosophy of the football club is to develop our own young players.

“I think that has bene a really nice thing and they have performed really well.

“I am hoping to involve some of them in the squad on Sunday, which will be reward for their hard work.”

In terms of more senior players, Pauline Bremer could return on Sunday.
