Fit-again Ansu Fati is being challenged to show his best in the Premier League as the clock ticks on his high-profile loan spell.

The Barcelona star has 13 games left in which to make a big impression in the league, having so far started just twice.

He has been sidelined for two months by injury and, before that, offered moments of magic in Europe.

Now he can add to Albion’s array of attacking weapons after they saw Kaoru Mitoma and Simon Adingra make impressive returns from injury and international commitments.

Ansu came off the bench briefly versus Crystal Palace and was the first substitute used at Tottenham.

But he was restricted to just a few minutes in the 5-0 win at Sheffield United, where he played a part in the final goal.

Speaking on the eve of the Bramall Lane game, head coach Roberto De Zerbi said: “His physical condition is improving.

“I think he has to push more. He has to become stronger because he has to respect his qualities, his talent. Talent is not enough in football.

“You have to give your best, you have to push to 100% of your capability. Then you can show your qualities. I don’t know another way.”

It remains unclear what future Ansu has at Barcelona although it would appear unlikely he would fit into Albion’s wage structure were they to look to keep hold of him.

He was all smiles around the squad at the recent open training day and appears to be enjoying his time in England.

The Seagulls made a big call to bring him in at a cost of £7 million in wages across ten months when they lost Julio Enciso to injury late in the summer transfer window.

At the time, chairman Tony Bloom said: “It is obviously expensive, not the sort of thing we would normally do.”

Albion are preparing to face what is likely to be a well-organised Everton low block on Saturday, which could leave them in need of creativity and pace.

Ansu was introduced for the final quarter of the league meeting at Goodison Park and gave the home side fresh problems with his willingness to run at defenders.

However, De Zerbi looked to Jakub Moder as an option to run in behind Sheffield United when he made changes at half-time on Sunday.

His comments ahead of that game were similar to those he made about Ansu in late January.

The Seagulls boss said: “I think he has the right motivation.”
