Despite the deluge of rain thrown down on Sussex over the weekend, racing prevailed at Plumpton, writes Emily Gailey.

Racegoers were not only treated to the exhilaration of competitive jumps action but also had the opportunity to learn about, and support, the work of Jamie’s Farm, who are dedicated to supporting vulnerable children through farm-based experiences.

The wind and cold did little to dampen racegoers spirits and the famed Plumpton roar was in full force!

David’s Well strolled to victory by 14 lengths in the Brough Scott Backs Jamie’s Farm Maiden Hurdle for Rex Dingle, trained by Chris Gordon and owned by The Morestead Select Syndicate.

Activist and Jack Tudor cruised home to win the Stonegate Homes Derby: Gallop to Glory Novice’s Limited Handicap Hurdle, trained by David Pipe for Mrs Lynne Maclennan.

There was a dramatic twist in the Dine and Stay @ The Holly Sportsman Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap Steeple Chase, when Windance unseated Chad Bament, leaving Everything’sOnTick to score for local girl Izzie Marshall, trained by Lawney Hill and owned by Martin Redman and Maurice Thomas.

Weavers Answer won the best turned out award before Alan Johns piloted him to victory in The Coral Racing Club Handicap Hurdle for Tim Vaughan and S&R Racing Ltd.

The BetGoodwin Handicap Steeple Chase was won by Time To Bite and Bryan Carver for Chris Honour, owned by the Chris Honour Racing Club.

HotToTrot Racing, who sponsored the final race on the card, enjoyed victory in the HotToTrot Racing Supports Jamie’s Farm Mares’ Handicap Hurdle with their horse Molto Bene, ridden by Lilly Pinchin for trainer Charlie Longsdon.

Plumpton race again next Monday with their Spring Raceday.
