Albion supporters have been urged to follow club advice and ensure they stay safe on their European travels.

About 3,500 away fans snapped up tickets for the Europa League clash with Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.

Some were already in Rome on Tuesday.

Sussex police football liaison PC Darren Balkham will b on the scene with three colleagues.

He has encouraged fans to follow the advice spelt out by the club here.

Local police and both clubs strongly recommend using the shuttle buses to and from the match.

Fans might be less tempted to travel to the stadium independently given it is not well served by public transport.

There is a reminder that pick-pocketing around the main attractions in Rome is very common.

Fans should take photos of their passports given that, if they lose the document itself, it makes it easier for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to issue another one - which can take up to 48 hours.

It is understood a national strike advertised for Friday is not expected to have too much impact on local services.

Most fans arriving at Fiumicino airport will have used the very smooth Leonardo Express rail service to reach Termini in the city, tickets for which cost 14 euros and can be bought easily at the airport’s railway station.

A note on italiarail.com reads: “Note for Leonardo Express passengers: You will be guaranteed your connection between Rome Termini and Fiumicino Airport with the Leonardo Express service or with replacement buses.”

Some fans will be looking to travel further afield by rail on Friday to catch flights back to England.

Information on the impact of strikes on the rail service can be found here.
