Roma believe they took off Paulo Dybala just in time to save him for their trip to the Amex.

The Argentina star went off during the second half of a 2-2 draw at Fiorentina on Sunday evening.

He appeared to be telling head coach Daniele De Rossi he felt fine as he made his 73rd-minute exit.

Roma twice came from behind, their second equaliser coming just seconds from the end.

De Rossi said of Dybala: “He hasn't always played so many games with so many minutes, I ask him for responsibility.

“He stopped in time. He was good. Sometimes to do five more minutes you're out for two months.”

There is some thought in Rome that Dybala could be on the bench at the Amex with Tommaso Baldanzi a contender to start.

Gianluca Mancini, who also scored against Albion last week, went off even earlier.

His 33rd-minute exit was down to concerns he would be sent off, having been booked and then committed two further, minor fouls.

Home fans were baying for him to be dismissed so De Rossi took him out of the firing line.

De Rossi made three changes to his starting XI from the Albion game and also switched to a back three.

He started with his skipper Lorenzo Pellegrini and full-backs Leonardo Spinazzoli and Zeki Celik all on the bench.

Roma produced a flat performance after their sparkling display against the Seagulls.

Houssem Aouar headed their first equaliser and Mile Svilar saved a penalty late on which could have put Fiorentina 3-1 up.

There were celebrations in the fifth added minute as Diego Llorente, on loan from Leeds, produced a stunning finished into the top corner from a knock down by his fellow defender Evan N’Dicka.

The goal and point maintained Roma’s momentum under De Rossi as they prepare to head to England.

Although he said he did not like to celebrate draws, the Roma boss added: “This team continues to amaze me with the attitude they have, for me it is synonymous with a great team.”
