Ollie Robinson bowled five overs in the Hove sunshine as Sussex completed their pre-season programme.
The county played out a lively draw with Hampshire over one 90-over day at the 1st Central County Ground.
The scheduled first day of their friendly was cancelled due to a wet outfield.
Each team batted for 45 overs.
Sussex reached 163-6 and had Hampshire reeling at 48-5 before reaching 150-8.
The hosts used nine bowlers.
Robinson took 1-6 off five overs as part of those early inroads and Ari Karvelas (2-26) took both his wickets in one over.
Sean Hunt finished with 2-13 and, later in the innings, James Coles had 3-28.
After Tom Clark, who made a century in the previous friendly against Surrey was out for nought, several batsmen got starts.
Oli Carter made 35 and Tom Alsop 31 with Tom Haines (26), Coles (21) and Fynn Hudson Prentice (25 not out) chipping in.
Sussex are hopeful Robinson will be available to face Northants in the season opener, which gets under way at Hove on Friday.
They now await the arrival of overseas players Cheteshwar Pujara and Jayden Seales.
