Bournemouth hope to secure one of their defenders a reprieve after going ahead of Albion in the Premier League.

The Cherries moved into tenth place in the Premier League table when they rode some good fortune to win 1-0 at Wolves on Wednesday.

A draw would have kept the Seagulls in tenth spot but they knew they would be overtaken by the winners at Molineux.

Bournemouth won the game thanks to Antoine Semenyo’s first-half goal and survived playing the final stages of the match with ten men after Milos Kerkez was shown a straight red card for a hefty challenge on Matt Doherty.

A VAR check confirmed the dismissal but Bournemouth felt Stuart Attwell’s decision was harsh and quickly said they would take the matter further.

Cherries boss Andoni Iraola told reporters: “I suppose we will appeal.

“I have seen the replay. Obviously Milos arrives late, but I don’t think it’s dangerous.

“He also tries to bend his knees at the end and he goes just on the floor, it is not dangerous for the player.

“I think what is associated with a red card is he missed the end of the game and also misses another three games.

“To miss three games because of this foul, for me is too harsh and I suppose we will appeal.”

Bournemouth have made no secret of their pursuit of a record Prem points for the club and a win over Albion on Sunday would secure that.

A recent burst of 13 points from five games gave them the platform to go for that.

They then took just one point from three outings, although they led in all three of those games and were unfortunate to only draw 2-2 with Manchester United.

Then came the 1-0 success at Wolves on a night full of talking points.

Attwell was already in the spotlight for his role as VAR in denying Nottingham Forest three penalties in Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Everton, which led Forest to insinuate bias as he supports relegation rivals Luton.

Controversy followed him around after he adjudged Matheus Cunha to have fouled Justin Kluivert in an off-the-ball incident in the build up to Hee Chan Hwang’s potential second-half equaliser.

It was not spotted in real time but Attwell opted to give the foul following advice from VAR Darren England to watch it again on the pitchside monitor.

Kerkez, the 20-year-old Hungarian left-back, has started 21 games this season and has been a regular in the Cherries’ back line of late.

Iraola gave Mark Travers his first league outing of the season in goal and said he now faces a decision over who faces Albion.

Club captain Neto had been ever present between the posts.

Iraola said: “I don't know, I have to think.

“I have to see how they train.

"I think we have to see what we need against Brighton because Brighton is always special, the way they play.

“But I really don't know what I will do on Sunday.”

Iraola was delighted to see Bournemouth hold on to their lead in the Black Country after not seeing the job through in those three previous games.

He referred to last Sunday’s 3-1 defeat at Aston Villa, in which Dominic Solanke put them ahead from the penalty spot, his 18th goal of the campaign.

Iraola said: “I think we deserved to win today, probably earlier in the game.

“I think our first 60, 70 minutes have been really, really good.

“But probably we were thinking of the Villa game, where we were also 1-0 up, you don't score the second one, you don't take your chances it probably always happens - you will find a moment where they push and especially after the red card, we couldn't keep our territorial advantage.

“We have to concede some space and defend lower but we could finish the job.”
