Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola confirmed they will be without Milos Kerkez against Brighton after an appeal to overturn his red card was unsuccessful.

The defender was shown a straight red during the Cherries’ midweek victory against Wolves for a foul on Matt Doherty in the 79th minute.

An unsuccessful appeal means Kerkez will now miss Bournemouth’s next three games and he will only return to contention for their final game of the season against Chelsea.

“They have answered straight away, he will have the three game normal suspension so I think he will only be able to play against Chelsea last game,” Iraola confirmed.

“I have my hopes after watching the replays because I don’t feel it’s a red card but normally to overturn a decision in this kind of experience, at least like they have in Spain, it has to be very super clear and it hasn’t happened.”

Iraola also added that there were a couple of knocks in the squad but they were not “massive injuries”, as the Cherries prepare to face south-coast rivals Brighton on Sunday.

The head coach also has a decision to make in goal after Mark Travers was handed his first Premier League start against Wolves on Wednesday and kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory at Molineux.

When asked about who would start between the sticks, Iraola replied: “I haven’t made a decision yet. I don’t know the starting 11.

“Sometimes I decide the morning of the game because I wait until I’ve seen them in training and those last feelings I have.

“I think Neto has been very good in the last games he has played. I wanted to see Mark, because he’s pushing a lot in training and is a very good keeper, that was the main decision.”

Bournemouth are one point above the Seagulls in the table coming into Sunday’s clash and Iraola believes his side are in a “good place” ahead of a “difficult” game.

“We’re in a good place I think, but I also think the game against Brighton is very difficult,” he said.

“They play so well, I think they’ve been working with the same style for a lot of time now and I think we played a good game against them when we played them, but it wasn’t enough, we couldn’t beat them.

“We have to play the same way or better and be better in the boxes.”
