Harrison Ward fired a reminder to Sussex as the county’s 2nd XI won a T20.

He scored 76 off 50 balls in a successful run chase against Kent.

Ward, who captained the side, hit seven fours and three sixes as Sussex reached a winning 202-4 with two balls to spare.

He had made just one in defeat by Surrey the previous day.

But the nature of his role in this win will have been noted by a Sussex set-up whose Vitality Blast line-up lacks explosive batting.

Ward and Tom Haines (28 off 21) put on 76 off 7.3 overs for the first wicket at Canterbury.

Tom Alsop was run out for 20 off 17 and James Coles played the role of finisher as he added 41 not out from 23 balls.

Former Sussex batsman Harry Finch made 63 off 44 balls at the top of the Kent innings as they set 201-5.

Archie Lenham took 2-40 off four overs while Coles was economical, his four wicketless overs going for 23.

Sussex are preparing for a Vitality Blast clash with Surrey at the Oval tomorrow.
