Fabian Huerzeler said Lewis Dunk showed his leadership qualities at Arsenal.
The skipper played a magnificent pass for Joao Pedro’s goal in a 1-1 draw.
Dunk had earlier been at fault when Kai Havertz put the Gunners ahead.
Seagulls boss Huerzeler said: “He knows it was not the best defending but for me a leader is how you react.
“Every player on the pitch makes a mistake.
“To react like this, still asking for the ball, still playing like the assist for the draw for us, it is amazing how he reacted to this mistake.
“I will never judge him by making these mistakes.
“I will judge him by having a bad reaction to these mistakes.
“He is a great leader, a great captain and he is very important for us.”
Dunk was left out of Lee Carsley’s first England squad but, at 32, Huerzeler sees him as a big part of the coming seasons with his club.
The head coach added: “He knows his body the best. He is a great player, a great character and I hope he will be for a long time still a player for Brighton.”
