Pervis Estupinan and Julio Enciso started for their national teams as they got back into their stride after injuries.
But the evening up in frustration for both Albion men as the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying process resumed.
Enciso was a key player for a Paraguay side who were held to a 0-0 draw in Uruguay.
Both Enciso and future Albion signing Diego Gomez hit the post with efforts from outside the box.
The curler by Gomez was a particularly good effort which had beaten Uruguay goalkeeper Sergio Rochet before it smacked back of the upright.
Enciso also slid the precise through ball from which Miguel Almiron was denied by Rochet in a one-on-one and, though he was tiring in the latter stages, the performance of the Albion man appeared to be positively received.
Paraguay are now coached by Gustavo Alfaro, who was previously in charge of Ecuador.
Alfaro's old team went down 1-0 away to Brazil as Estupinan had his first start for club and country in almost five months.
He played as left wing-back and got forward well as Ecuador chased an equaliser.
Estupinan has looked rusty in recent games but his 85 minutes was his longest appearance since Albion played Arsenal on April 6.
Joao Pedro remained an unused sub for Brazil, who now prepare to visit Paraguay in Asuncion in a game which kicks off at 1.30am on Wednesday, our time.
Ecuador face Peru in Quito, the game starting at 10pm on Tuesday BST.
