Henry Crocombe played down promotion talk after he helped put Sussex on top at Hove.

The young pace bowler took two quick wickets as Sussex dismissed Glamorgan for 186 in the Vitality County Championship.

They had reached 121-1 in reply by the close of play on day one.

Promotion rivals Yorkshire and Middlesex also enjoyed good opening days but Sussex remain in pole position to reach the top flight with two further rounds of fixtures to play.

Crocombe said: “We don’t really talk about promotion but obviously we’re in a really good position.

“We’re playing good cricket all the time.

“There is so much to look forward to over the next couple of weeks.

“It’s a really good time for the club and very exciting.

“We’ve been very lucky with fitness this year.

“But with everyone fit and playing well it’s been difficult to get into the side.

“ We’ve got such depth on the bowling side. Now I’ve got my chance I’m trying to take it.”

Kiran Carlson, who scored 56 for Glamorgan, said: “Ollie Robinson (pictured) is an international class bowler and he bowled really well at the top.

“I was pleased to get through that. I was playing nicely but I couldn’t go on and get a big one. Hopefully there is still enough still there to bowl them out for 300-350.”
