Fabian Huerzeler will tell his Albion squad the Carabao Cup offers the chance to pursue a trophy.
The head coach will make changes to his line-up in the third-round tie at home to Wolves this evening (7.45pm).
But he is keen to go on a run which would also improve the club’s poor record in the second domestic knockout.
Huerzeler said: “For me in Germany you only have the DFB Cup.
“For me, cup competitions are always a competition where you can win a title.
“I want to win titles, the club want to win titles, players want to win titles. It is a chance for us.
“I know we have three days later an important Premier League game (at home to Nottingham Forest) “But I take this game very seriously and I will also transmit this message to my team.
“The Carabao Cup is a chance to win a title so therefore we take it very seriously.
“We try to prepare this game like a Premier League game and hopefully we have a chance to win this game.”
Huerzeler and his squad can start to scent their own bit of club history in this competition if they get through to the fourth-round draw.
Albion have only once reached the fifth round of the League Cup and that was way back in 1978-79.
Mark O’Mahony’s recent goal against Crawley was the club’s 200th in the competition.
