Albion under-21s suffered defeat in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, despite another productive night for Harry Howell and Cam Peupion.
The young Seagulls went down 5-3 at League One outfit Wycombe in the second round of group fixtures and are facing an uphill battle to reach the knockout stages.
They were 5-1 down a one stage as former Crawley man Bez Lubala scored four.
Howell, who netted in open play in the League Cup win over Reading on Friday, converted two penalties this time.
Both spot kicks resulted from fouls on Cam Peupion, who also teed up a goal for Marcus Ifill.
Peupion is in good form having scored a hat-trick against Reading.
Albion return to Premier Leaguee 2 action on Friday when they visit Nottingham Forest.
