Albion have been told they cannot switch off as they look to halt improving Chelsea.
The Seagulls are at Stamford Bridge today (3pm) to face the Premier League’s second-top goalscorers.
Fabian Huerzeler has generally been happy with how his side have defended, conceding four goals in five Prem games to date.
But he said there cannot be any repeat of the much-discussed lapses in the 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest.
Huerzeler said: “I am pleased how they do it in most situations.
“I am not pleased that we don’t do it consistently because I think the goals we conceded against Nottingham, they were two times really dangerous in front of our goal and two times it happened like a goal.
Jack Hinshelwood comes from a family of defenders but initially developed as attacking midfielder. In 2021, his dad Adam said to me: “How did that happen? I don’t have a clue! He will probably end up working his way back.” #bhafc https://t.co/A0SiZaTPy4

“It was because we were lazy in our defending. We were not consistent, not focussed enough to defend our own goal.
“We were not sharp enough in these moments.
“It happens because of a lack of concentration, it happens because we don’t follow our principles.
“Therefore I want us to do it for 90 minutes consistently.
“In the end, I always say defence wins championships.
“If you don’t defend well, then you won’t win any game in the Premier League.
“We have to defend better in these situations. For me, defending starts with my offensive players.
“The goal we conceded was not a mistake from my defender, from my back four.
“It was more like the offensive players have to work better to close the middle, to work better to follow our principles to get more pressure on the ball if we are on the high pressure.
“Defending is always a thing of togetherness, and I will never judge my defenders if they concede goals like this if my offensive players didn’t work well against the ball.”
Huerzeler is without Joao Pedro at Chelsea but could include Brajan Gruda in the matchday 20 for the first time.
