Albion have had a word with Carlos Baleba about his defending after two recent penalty decisions.
The midfielder conceded a spot kick last time out at the Amex as Nottingham Forest forced a 2-2 draw.
He was also in the vicinity last Saturday when Chelsea were awarded a spot kick.
However, the Premier League Match Centre confirmed the spot kick was awarded against Georginio Rutter as Jadon Sancho looked to go between the two Albion and then hit the deck.
There have also been occasions when Baleba has appeared to be harshly penalised or even carded in other areas of the pitch.
Albion head coach Fabian Huerzeler said: “For Carlos, it’s part of his development.
“We give him feedback, of course, and we also give him feedback how to defend in your own box.
“In the end he needs to learn from it. We can give him advice and support and we will give him that.
“We will never go to a player and say, ‘Why do you do that?’.
“It’s more about giving him advice, giving him support so he can learn from it.”
VAR analyst Dale Johnson came as close as could be expected to saying the officials got it wrong at Stamford Bridge and Huerzeler believes his side have been harshly treated in the last two games.
In his popular ESPN column, Johnson said the Chelsea penalty was “soft” and added: “Rutter places his right leg into Sancho, which causes the forward to go down.
“That said, it feels unlikely that the VAR would have advised a penalty if it hadn't been given.”
Huerzeler said: “If those are penalties then we should have two penalties at Chelsea.
“Maybe even a second yellow card against Cucurella after his foul on Georginio.
“But the referee didn’t give any whistle.
“I think you need momentum in these games and we didn’t have momentum on our side.
“We have to accept it, we have to be so good that no one can influence our performance or our results.”
