Cameron Peupion scored a stunning free-kick to help keep Albion under-21s’ hopes flickering in the EFL Trophy.
The Australian forward curled into the top corner from ten yards outside the box as the young Seagulls completed their group fixtures with a 3-0 win at Wimbledon.
Second-half goals from Caylan Vickers, Peupion and substitute Remiero Moulton secured an impressive victory.
Albion move into second place in the group on four points, ahead of Wycombe (3) and Crawley (2).
The third goal kept their hopes alive, although they have a very specific requirement if they are to go through.
They need the final match, between Crawley and Wycombe, to end level after 90 minutes with Reds then winning the shoot out.
That match will be played at Adams Park in two weeks’ time and a win over 90 minutes for Crawley would send them through with Wimbledon.
Albion: Cahill, Tasker, McConville, Penman (Moulton 80), Ifill, Knight (Owusu 88), C. Vickers, Albarus, Peupion, Duffus (Belmont 80). Subs not used: Mills, Fisher, Bashir, J. Vickers.
