Julio Enciso has been told married life will help his football career.

The message comes from his on-field mentor, former team-mate and best man Oscar Cardozo ahead of two World Cup qualifiers.

Enciso took a day off national team training last week and tied the knot.

Former Paraguay and Benfica striker Cardozo played alongside Enciso in the Libertad attack before the latter made his big move to England.

Now he is offering support off the field as the Albion forward’s marriage at 21 attracts a huge amount of comment – not all of it positive - in Paraguay.

Cardozo told media: "I always said that if I didn't get married, I wouldn't achieve what I've achieved in football.

"For me, it's very important to have a supportive partner in the bad times, and also in the good times, because sometimes you want to lose your mind.

"That's why the family is there, especially his wife, who is always with him.

“In my case, that was very important for my career, and I say it will be the same for him.”

Enciso returned to training the day after his marriage and posted on social media: “Happy to be back! Now, with God, let’s all go together!

Paraguay are on the brink of securing World Cup qualification as they prepare to host Uruguay in Asuncion, then visit Brazil in Sao Paolo.

The latter will be Carlo Ancelotti’s second game in charge of Brazil. His debut comes against Pervis Estupinan and Ecuador.
