Napoli are the latest club believed to be eyeing Matt O’Riley.

But it is unclear whether they have made a bid for the former Celtic man.

The Serie A champions are reported by Sky Sports to have offered about £25.6 million.

The Argus have today been told by a well-placed source in Naples that O’Riley is “on the list” of the club’s sporting director Giovanni Manna – and “nothing more for the moment”.

It is the latest in a handful of transfer-related headlines or social media posts involving O'Riley since the end of last season.

He was speculatively linked with interest from various leagues, including Serie A, by transfer tweeter Fabrizio Romano recently – but he then deleted his post.

Former England boss Fabio Capello then recommended via his column in La Gazzetta Dello Sport that Atalanta sign the midfielder.

Meanwhile, media in Glasgow are seizing on each update in the context of Celtic potentially pocketing a sell-on fee.

O’Riley told reporters in Denmark that he has not played in his ideal position for the Seagulls.

But indications towards the end of last season were he has a part in Fabian Hurzeler’s plans.

He started six successive games in a No.10 role after Georginio Rutter was injured.

Two outings off the bench to complete the season saw him set up the winning goal against Liverpool and confidently convert a penalty at Tottenham.

Sky’s Lyall Thomas reported Albion “will entertain offers which meet their valuation”.

Napoli regained their title in dramatic fashion last season, helped by former Albion midfielder Billy Gilmour and ex-Manchester United man Scott McTominay, who was one of Serie A’s outstanding players.

They have since added Kevin De Bruyne to their ranks.
