Tommy Watson was in the thick of the action at training as Albion prepared to visit Nottingham Forest.
The former Sunderland winger has missed recent matches either side of the international break with an unspecified injury.
But head coach Fabian Hurzler said ahead of the Brentford game that Watson would be back “next week”.
He looked to be well involved in the Lancing session on Tuesday.
He was spotted tussling for the ball with tough-tacking Mats Wieffer and also looking to take on Max De Cuyper.
Watson was making progress before the injury with lively appearances off the bench at Manchester United and Arsenal.
He then had only a brief outing in the 3-0 win over Leeds and did not feature in squads to face Crystal Palace and Brentford either side of the international break.
Competition is hotting up even to get on the bench and Watson looks set to add to that at the City Ground.
Kaoru Mitoma, who was still suffering pain in his ankle when Hurzeler gave his latest update on Saturday evening, is not expected to face Forest.

But Watson could offer another genuine wing option.
Albion have used Diego Gomez to the left of centre recently and pushed Ferdi Kadioglu further forward down that side in the second half against Brentford.
The training session also included under-21s Joe Knight and Nehemiah Oriola, who worked with the seniors rather than travelling with the under-21s to face Woking in a decisive final group match of the National League Cup.
