Jack Hinshelwood says Albion’s 7-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest still hurts him.
Now he wants to avenge that mauling and take another step in a season which could yet end in a World Cup call.
The England under-21 international marked his first significant action for 12 weeks by scoring the winner at home to Brentford last week.
He could get his first start in three months at the venue where he made his return from injury last season.
Hinshelwood was given mission impossible that day on his first start, and second appearance, in three months as the only midfielder in a daring tactical plan.
He was one of three players taken off at half-time as Forest led 3-0.
He told The Argus: “We're in a different place now but it still hurts me to this day, that game, the way that the game panned out.
“It's definitely still hurting me as well as the other lads.
“If we can show the same character as we did (against Brentford), I'm sure we can get a positive result.”
Hinshelwood scored at home to Forest in the league but saw his penalty saved in an FA Cup shoot-out.
He played in a left-back role for England under-21s as they won the Euros in the summer and revealed Tuchel was impressed with his work.
Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott has already made the step up to the senior squad.

Tuchel has said the door remains open to the World Cup and he will contact a host of players.
Hinshelwood said: “He spoke to us after we won the Euros in the summer and he said he liked the way I played and stuff.
“I'm not making any decisions. I can just make myself available and keep working hard day in, day out.
“If I'm playing regular games here for Brighton, that's all I can do really. It's out of my hands.”
