Albion could kick off at Nottingham Forest with seven members of the side who started their 7-0 defeat there last season.
Or seven members of the XI who began the second half, when things turned really ugly.
The former will be the case if Jack Hinshelwood is brought into midfield in place of Carlos Baleba.
A return for Hinshelwood in place of out-of-sorts Baleba looks an obvious midfield decision for Fabian Hurzeler.
The one slight complication could be that Hinshelwood has only played half an hour in the last 13 weeks and is coming back from an ankle injury.
It could be that his workload needs management as we go into a week which also sees Albion play Aston Villa on Wednesday.
Hinshelwood made his first start, and second appearance, in three months when Albion went to Forest last season.
The similarity in that regard will be striking if he is indeed in the XI for his first start, and second appearance, in three months again.
But Hurzeler would give him more support this time.
As well as Hinshelwood, Bart Verbruggen, Lewis Dunk, Jan Paul van Hecke, Yankuba Minteh, Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck were all in the XI for the 7-0.
All appear to be key players this time, which would mean a return to the line-up for Dunk.
The others starters last term were Joel Veltman, who has been on the bench recently, the currently injured Kaoru Mitoma and Joao Pedro and Tariq Lamptey, who have both since moved on.

Milner, Mitoma and Watson updates direct from the Albion training ground
Diego Gomez went on at half-time along with Simon Adingra (now Sunderland) and Matt O’Riley (now on loan at Marseille) with Hinshelwood, Joao Pedro and Mitoma making way.
Albion are likely to have a little more competition for places on the bench than last week as Tommy Watson returns after a minor injury.
Mitoma and James Milner are still ruled out.
Possible Albion XI: Verbruggen; Wieffer, van Hecke, Dunk, Kadioglu; Hinshelwood, Ayari; Minteh, Rutter, Gomez; Welbeck.
