Maxim De Cuyper was given an Albion start at Nottingham Forest and came up with a goal.

The Belgium international played ahead of Ferdi Kadioglu with Diego Gomez moving into a more central role.

Albion boss Fabian Hurzeler said: “It was more a decision for Ferdi and Maxim on the left, and we wanted to have Diego on the pitch as well.

“We put Diego as an eight and, I said it after the last game, it's about competition.

“It's about that everyone fights for his place, that they compete.

“Of course, always taking to our principles, always sticking to our togetherness.

“But I think the availability, where we get more and more players back, definitely helps.

“We have more competition and that means that we also have to make decisions regarding the starting 11, regarding the subs.

“Therefore, I hope that it continues like this because that intensity and energy in training should be high.”

Hurzeler burned his gameplan after the 7-0 defeat at Forest last season but has no plans to frame that he produced this time.

He laughed: “I think I don't have time because Wednesday's the next game (at home to Aston Villa), the next big challenge.

“It's very important now to recover good, to regenerate good, also for the players, and then try to prepare the best we can do for Aston Villa, because this will be another big, big challenge where we have to invest a lot.”

Carlos Baleba and Jack Hinshelwood went on as midfield substitutes.
