Fabian Hurzeler has revealed why he loves meeting Albion legends after a catch-up with Brian Horton.

The head coach met the club’s former manager and captain ahead of the recent 1-1 draw at Manchester City.

The two spent some time in conversation during the afternoon.

Horton was impressed by the performance Hurzeler’s team subsequently produced at the Etihad and felt they deserved their 1-1 draw.

Hurzeler told The Argus: “Great personality, so I really enjoyed the conversation with him.

"First of all, it's always important to get an understanding about the history of this club and to get in talks with personalities, with head coaches, with former players who were involved in the history of this club because I think they understand the club most.

“They had good experience, bad experience, so I can really learn a lot from from these kind of conversations regarding the history, regarding different processes, regarding how they see the club evolving and developing because they experienced it on their own and now they see it from outside.

“I think it's always important to get their external feedback.”

Horton played for Albion in great days which saw them win promotion to the top flight for the first time in 1979.

He was then manager during their toughest era as they were forced into exile at Gillingham.

It perhaps speaks volumes that he was tempted away by an offer from Port Vale.

He later went on to manage City and is a regular at the Etihad.

Hurzeler said: “Regarding Brian, he's just a very honest and and loyal man and I think that's always important in life to be open for these kind of things, to not think that you know everything about the club, you know everything about the job, you're perfect.

“I think that's the wrong way to to handle it and therefore I'm quite pleased that these kind of personalities take their time and are very open, very sharing, and also caring, sharing very important knowledge and experiences they they made during their career.

“Not only in Brighton, but also during their career as a coach or as a player.”

Hurzler previously met Goldstone greats Peter Ward and Steve Foster when they visited the training ground in Lancing to receive their legacy England caps.
