Brighton Racecourse are ready to get their 2026 season belatedly up and running.
Their meeting on Friday, May 29 has been given the go-ahead following extensive remedial works to damage caused earlier in the spring by a combination of leatherjacket and nematode infestations
Work carried out by the Brighton Racecourse grounds team, in conjunction with independent agronomy experts, led to a successful inspection and trial gallop on Wednesday morning.
Jockey Tom Queally, who took part in a trial gallop, said: "The horses we rode were a mixture, some experienced and some inexperienced.
“They all gathered a good deal of traction, with plenty of grip. I have full confidence in riding any type of horse over any distance at Brighton."
The positive outcome of the inspection and gallop came too late to save the fixture scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, which has been switched to Bath.

Executive director of Brighton Racecourse, Paul Ellison, said: "We are delighted that the work undertaken by our grounds team has been successful.
“We would, of course, like to thank them for all of their hard work as well as all of the owners, trainers, jockeys, annual members and customers who have been inconvenienced by the delay to the start of the season.
“Likewise, the local community to the racecourse for their cooperation and support throughout this period.”
Brighton will have lost their first six fixtures of a season which was due to start on April 18.
